Omni Voxel - Futurarc Prize 2020
Omni Voxel attempts to mimic the quality of nature’s design. The core concept emerges from balancing economic, ecologic and social aspects of a development that are relevant and applicable across any place.
It intends to create an inventory of modular design systems that make “living in union with nature” an economically profitable endeavour. The design mimics the natural system’s ability to thrive with all contributing species, with each being benefitted in the process. It is a framework that provides a win-win partnership for nature, and all living biomes within.
Ennore Creek, a critical component of ecological resilience in Chennai city, has become a polluted industrial hub. The solution integrates nature consciously within this urban realm, redistributing the built footprint, not only for human dwellings, but for nature, ecosystem-based activities and seasonal cycles.
Integrating network flows of soil, water, energy and materials, the habitat is Omni-competent and in all aspects net positive, thriving within. The design goes beyond defining spatial / physical objects to create a system for change at different scales of social-ecological context that can be used to regenerate existing neighbourhoods and build new thriving ones.
